The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners was established in 1978 to recognize excellence in clinical practice through the certification of species-oriented specialists.

The successful applicant must master a rigorous and demanding application process and pass a certifying examination to obtain Diplomate status.

To qualify to sit for the extensive, 2-day examination, the veterinarian must complete either a residency program or 6 years of clinical practice. Case reports, professional continuing education records, and recommendations from other veterinarians must be submitted and approved before an applicant is allowed to sit for the exam.

The ABVP is an approved veterinary specialty organization of the American Board of Veterinary Specialties and is recognized by The American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Judd became ABVP Board Certified in Equine Practice in 1998 and became ABVP Board Certified in Canine/Feline Practice in 2003.
